Buffets in Rome are different.  They're more like a tapas bar or light buffet called an Aperitvo in Italian.  These are great oppotunities to not only meet people but to have some great food and drink.  Bars in Rome usually offer Aperitivi for free with your drink order but many don't so make sure you ask before picking up a plate and helping yourself as you may find that you have an extra 5 or 6 euro on your bill.  Also be careful as some un-cool places will try to charge everyone at your table.  Ask first, eat later.

The following bars offer free buffets (Aperitivi) with your drinks and they're two really cool bars in Rome Center and across the river in Trilussa (across Ponte Sisto).  Eat well and enjoy!
